remember, jury of your peers aka normal citizens..if he gets convited ill eat my left sandal.
but yes the patriot act opened up quite alot of doors previously closed in america, the once extremly vallued privacy and rights has realy diminished since then but we in sweden should be used to that, police have been doing that here to although they threaten you instead of going to court with you.
Its a problem with authority everywhere not just america.

Its the same old case of: We have an old law now available, we don't like this guy or what he is dooing, awesome we can try the law and see what happens.
The DA and the Police Chief clearly have it in against anyone who records them and are trying to try the law to see if it can actually be used. And if it can all hell will break loose.
Probably it won't though, but the issue will become that other states will try the law as well and it might not go as well for everyone it targets.
Sounded from the clips that it was an old law but made available by the changes come 9-11, but then again i don't know much of the laws in the states or about the patriot act and such.
However it still feels like a case of the fact that they have a law that has not been tried enough times to know how it should be interpreted. And until it has been tried enough times DA:s will try it if they can.
Its the same here in sweden, if a law exists but has no prejudicates people will try the law to see how it is applied, even if the consequences of the law would be dire for the one it is tried upon. The DA then just puts his faith on the system to make sure the law is not abused.
just take the case recently where 1 private person filmed a police intervention by the subway, where the police then threatened the movie maker to get him to delete the movie, i belive the police did get sent to court about it but for a much lesser charge than what it realy is (tror det var ofredande alternativt tjänstefel istället för övergrepp i rättsak) de får även behålla jobbet om de fälls (altså säger rps dn att brottet inte är så farligt) you can read more at: http://tuggarna.posterous.com/polise...nnelbanan-star and see the video at : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epxKJ6fH3X0
I also strongly object to their need for secrecy tbh, this was not some super anti established crime sting and it comes down to what blodis quoted: "When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty." As someone who has regular contact with the police and has so for the last 10 years i belive while there is tons og GREAT police out there who do us all a great service there is a good number, much higher than in most other similar authority bearing jobs that simply are a problem and not a solution.

Yeah its not just the states, they actualy have a stronger history of actualy giving a damn about things like these compared to us.
Seems like the world is sliding into the mud.....
